[MANCHESTER, October 1st, 2020] Following successful trial testing in Manchester last month, BLOK Bioscience is to return to David Lloyd Trafford City to run three days of COVID-19 antibody testing for club members on 15th – 17th October 2020.

David Lloyd Club members are now able to book a rapid COVID-19 antibody test, provided by BLOK BioScience, using the introductory discount. The finger prick antibody test costs £34 at full price, is 93% accurate, and takes 15 minutes to give a result. You must be over the age of 18 years old to book one of the 294 tests available.

The antibody test can determine whether you have had coronavirus and your immune system is still hosting antibodies to protect you from being reinfected. It is not currently known how long these antibodies last. To date, there have been six confirmed reinfections out of 30 million confirmed cases worldwide.

Jake French, Club Manager at David Lloyd Trafford City, commented:

“At David Lloyd Clubs we [are] fortunate that our sites are very spacious and we have been able to introduce a whole range of social distancing measures which have allowed all of our 100 UK clubs to safely reopen. It has been fantastic to welcome our club members back and to see our facilities in use once more. However, with the virus remaining a threat and the government calling on all of us to play our part in taking measures to minimise risk of infection, we wanted to do all we can to keep our members and team as safe as well as provide some level of normality. By teaming up with BLOK BioScience we are able to give our members some peace of mind with the opportunity to find out whether they currently have antibodies against the virus.”

Ed Rayner, BLOK BioScience’s commercial director, said of the partnership:

“The first wave of infection has taught us a lot about the impact of COVID-19 not only on public health, but also on the economy. As the second wave continues, we need to take measures to protect both. We understand that the best course of action to support our society through this pandemic is to be as proactive as possible in protecting lives and creating safer social spaces. That’s exactly the approach that David Lloyd Clubs has been taking, and we at BLOK are happy to be able to support their efforts.”

Antibody tests and blood plasma donation

In addition to awareness of whether you have had COVID-19 and currently have antibodies, there is also the option to use this information to further help the most vulnerable during the pandemic by donating plasma. The NHS is actively recruiting people who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate blood plasma for its clinical trials.

Nick, a Bristol man who took one of BLOK BioScience’s finger-prick antibody tests spoke of his experience: “I’m so pleased I took the antibody test and found out I could [donate plasma], and I would recommend everyone regularly checked to see if they’ve had it and have the antibodies. The more people know, the more we can offer our help to the doctors and researchers doing their best to battle this pandemic.”

Booking your antibody test

BLOK BioScience is currently offering antibody testing at various sites around the UK. Testing is open for everyone, including non-David Lloyd members. Check BlokTesting.com to find one local to you.
